Before the first pour

This Italian startup created an AI “seated at the table” to recommend the right wine for every dish, turning a simple order into an enogastronomic experience. The product was strong, but the story wasn’t: their online presence looked like a generic tech tool, not an Italian food and wine experience. The challenge was to connect advanced AI with what Italy does best food, wine and hospitality without falling into clichés or feeling too “techy” for restaurateurs and guests.

The experience we wanted to design

The experience we wanted to design

The goal was to make the AI feel less like software and more like a discreet digital sommelier. The website had to explain the logic clearly to restaurant owners while still selling the dream to diners: better pairings, richer experiences, and higher average tickets. We wanted visitors to immediately understand one idea: this is not just about choosing a bottle, it is about elevating the entire meal through smart, Italian rooted pairing.

Designing the pairing intelligence

We built the narrative around the meeting point between AI and terroir. Structurally, the site leads with the experience at the table how it feels for the guest and what it unlocks for the restaurant and only then explains the technology behind it. Visually, we combined warm, restaurant grade photography (table settings, glasses, dishes) with clean, minimal UI elements that represent the “brain” of the system. Copy and layout emphasise Italian food and wine culture first, algorithms second.

Bringing the digital sommelier to the table

On the execution side, we designed and built the website to walk three audiences through the story: guests, restaurateurs and partners. We created clear sections that show how the AI works during a real dinner, how it integrates with existing workflows, and how it can be branded inside the venue (table tablets, QR codes, or in menu prompts). Animations and micro interactions highlight the moment of pairing choose a dish, receive a curated wine suggestion keeping the interface simple but premium. The overall feel is closer to a high end restaurant than to a tech dashboard.

What changed for the brand

With the new site, the service is positioned as an Italian excellence that happens to be powered by AI, not the other way around. Restaurants can quickly see the value: a more guided experience for guests, an easier upsell of quality wines, and a differentiating service they can actually market. For diners, the message is straightforward: you sit, you order, and the “Digital sommelier” quietly upgrades your meal. The brand now has a story and a visual system coherent enough to support pilots, partnerships and future features.
